We are senior Elders, families and community members from the Warlpiri Nation. There has been a lot of attention on our community of Yuendumu since NT Police Constable Zachary Rolfe shot and killed our loved one, Kumanjayi Walker, on 9 November 2019.

Since then, our community has mobilised to demand justice. We have seen many other communities and supporters across the Northern Territory and the continent rally behind us. However, during the trial itself we were advised not to protest because of potential impacts on the court case.

Since the end of the trial, and the acquittal of Rolfe in March 2022, we are feeling a new momentum driven by our grief and anger toward such unjust outcomes. We are shattered. We need everyone to join us on the streets once again and support our cry for justice and change. Enough is enough!

A National Day of Action

We have called a National Day of Action on 18 June 2022 as part of our Karrinjarla muwajarri/ Ceasefire campaign, which is demanding:

  • Justice for deaths in custody of loved ones at the hands of police – like that of Warlpiri teenager Kumanjayi Walker
  • An end to police guns in remote communities
  • Funding for community-controlled services
  • An overall end to discriminatory laws and powers resulting from 15 years of the Northern Territory Intervention

Please visit karrinjarlamuwajarri.org to read the statement of demands in full and add the endorsement of your organisation.

A crowdfunder to support the National Day of Action has been set up here.
